JACLYN LOUISE SMOKER - PSYCHOLOGIST (MAPS)

Jaclyn has been providing psychological services to children, adolescents and adults for almost 20 years. She is a highly experienced psychologist who works with children, adolescents and adults across a range of emotional and behavioural issues. She has a particular interest in working with clients whose primary presenting issues have developed due to exposure to past traumatic and stressful events. Whilst these experiences can result in traumatic stress related disorders, people can also develop other issues such as social anxiety, phobia's, health anxiety, depression, sleep issues, difficulties with emotional and behavioural regulation as well as relationship difficulties. Jaclyn is able to relate to and develop therapeutic relationships with people of all ages and from all different backgrounds and communities.

Children presenting with emotional, behavioural and/or relationship issues can benefit greatly from engaging with a psychologist who has the skills and experience in working with children and their families. Depending on their age children communicate and think very differently from other age groups and adults. Understanding and then explaining emotions, feelings and illness does need to be communicated differently depending on the age of the person. Jaclyn's consultation room provides her and her clients wth access to a well resourced play therapy space filled with a range of toys and art supplies which can often immediately put them at ease when this is an unfamiliar setting to them.
